February livejournal post

This was a little something from the February livejournal archive. I am also Delirium's Dream on there for reference.

Hey gang!

Sorry I haven't written in a while but I have been busy with school and chillin' at home to save money.

I just have to share a funny moment from school yesterday:

My one professor scheduled a lecture for our department. It was presented by employees from T.M. Floyd and MTC graduates. They were there to discuss technology careers within the Columbia area. It was very nice and very informative and I got some good networking time in as well. Now, my professor had asked me to be one of his assistants yesterday so he had told me to dress nice, etc. on Monday.

So, I show up in a skirt, heels, etc. My hair was down and I had full makeup on. Now, most of my fellow students have only seen me with my hair pulled back, jeans, tennis shoes, sweatshirt and minimal, if any, makeup so some of them were quite impressed. I had several, "You clean up nice, Leidy" comments. However, the best part came after all the presentations were done and we were cleaning up. I was standing there finishing a conversation with someone while holding a pizza box and I turned to say goodbye to a fellow student when he looked at me and said, "You are every computer dork's dream right now." I just looked at him and he continued, "You are standing there all curvaceous, in heels, holding a pizza box, leaving a computer programming lecture and before all of that you were reading a short story collection by Neil Gaiman. Yeah, a computer dork's dream."

I laughed and said, "Oh, ____, you are so full of it." and shook my head. To which I turned back around to see the remaining guys staring at me and one of them commented, "No, he's right."

"Well, would you like me to speak in binary too?" I asked, The guys just stood there and I could hear the gears moving in their heads. "I am joking. It was a joke." I left very shortly afterward.

I have to say it made me feel good though. At least they accept me finally, granted it's sexist but they still accept me.
